There are multiple types of jewellery, produced in different materials, involving different techniques. Silver jewellery, for example, requires a different handling compared to stainless steel or solid gold. In addition to the variety of materials, your jewellery can be made from either handcrafted or industrial processes.
All MESH jewellery is handcrafted in our workshops, using traditional methods inspired by our founders' family heritage, with a contemporary twist by introducing advanced industry techniques. In order to achieve all the precious details and delicacy of your pieces, we use a wax mold method, although being a more time-consuming and costly process, it allows the most detail and minor features.
Follow this step-by-step guide to understand how a piece of jewellery is produced in our workshops!
#1 DESIGN AND CREATIVE PROCESS
Our collections always begin with a moodboard of ideas, inspirations, and trends, serving as the foundation for creating the pieces or collection. These designs start out as hand sketches and then evolve to digital using a 3D software.
#2 3D PRINTING AND MOLD CREATION
Once the 3D designs are completed, they come to life in a wax 3D printer. The various prints are manually joined to a common core, forming an object we call a "tree." This tree is placed in a cylindrical casing and surrounded by plaster, which goes into a high-temperature oven to solidify the plaster and melt the wax, creating a negative mold of the pieces.
#3 RAW MATERIAL SELECTION AND CASTING PROCESS
In this phase, we select our 100% recycled silver, subject it to high temperatures to melt, and insert it into the previously created plaster molds. When the silver cools down, we get the jewellery’s structural pieces.
From the casting cylinder, several "tree" pieces emerge, which are then detached and welded to the remaining parts: posts on earrings, chains on necklaces and bracelets, and so on. At this stage, the pieces take on their final shape, where edges and other necessary details are sanded and filed. Finally, the pieces are polished with a high-speed rotating synthetic brush, gently wearing any imperfections, scratches, and later buffed to bring out the shine.
#5 FINISHING TOUCHES
Ultimately, the final touches are applied, whether giving a satin or polished appearance, adding stones and zirconias, or pearls.
#6 METAL PLATING AND COATING
Once the piece is polished and cleaned, it undergoes an 18K gold or, for our silver-colored pieces, rhodium plating. In this process, the silver jewel is submerged in a chemical solution containing the precious metal, using electrical current for the gold or rhodium to bond to the silver. A drying process follows.
To ensure the longevity of the plating on our pieces, a final protective layer, known as e-coating, is applied over the plating.
Now your jewellery is ready to be worn, giving your imagination wings to create the coolest and most creative looks!
This is the production process for our products, that allows the details and quality unique to MESH, entirely handcrafted in-house by our artisans. It's this manual work and techniques passed down through generations that truly add value to our jewellery.
